Media Planner Jobs
What is a media planner?
Like media buyers, media planners work with ad and media agencies to maximise the impact of their promotional campaigns, combining statistical analysis and market research to target their consumer audience effectively. They work to enhance the client's brand by determining which medium best serves the company message. This involves working with the client to determine their needs; then, working with a creative and marketing to set a strategy in place; showing that plan with costing to the client; and then moving forward with implementation.
Media planner salary and qualifications
Junior starting salaries begin at £15,000 ranging to £25,000 for basic positions; however, this increases substantially with experience, and senior roles as a manager or team leader can earn more than £40,000 and potentially double that. It's a busy and demanding job that requires one to be flexible with their working hours in order to meet client needs, and positions are often based in major city hubs, as there are a higher proportion of media planner jobs in London compared to the rest of the country. Candidates for the job will often require a degree and experience in marketing, PR or journalism, but most importantly, they need to be able to function in a demanding, fast-paced working environment, have the skills to analyse stats and be able to communicate effectively, either via the written word or in person.
